The Ming Tombs are the burial sites of 13 emperors of Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). ChangLing, the tomb of Emperor YongLe is the biggest and the first built in this area. Mu Tian Yu Great Wall located North East of Beijing in Huai Rou County, this section of the Great Wall is located about 70 KM from the city center of Beijing. The Temple of Heaven is the place where Ming and Qing emperors came to pray for good harvests. The three-story round building rises from a large square platform four meters high fittingly standing in a ceremonial ground surrounded by acres of ancient trees. The echo stones leading to the temple, the echo wall that goes around it and the stories associated with praying there to heaven, all add some spice to the mystery of this place. Built in the period 1406 to 1420, the Forbidden City boasts over 9000 room units with a building space of 150,000 square meters. The huge complex of halls, towers and pavilions with golden glazed tiles was the imperial court as well as the palace of emperors and empresses of the Ming and Qing dynasties. The Summer Palace occupies an area of 290 hectares. The earth dug out from Kunming Lake was used to create Longevity Hill. Beside the rippling lake water and the magnificent hill, terraces, towers, pavilions, temples, pagodas, long corridor, marble boat, theater and many other structures, all together make up this unusual place that once served as a villa and garden for the royal family. UNESCO listed it as one of the World Heritages in 1998.
