Great Wall at Badaling The Ming Imperial Tombs Daily Tour |
|
Known
as one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Great Wall,
symbolizing China's ancient civilization, is one of the
most renowned projects.
Construction
of the wall first began more than 2500 years ago with
a total length of over 6000 kilometers. Badaling Great
Wall, the north gate of Beijing, was actually a hub of
communications in ancient times. It is the best-preserved
part of the Wall. UNESCO listed it as one of the World
Heritages in 1987.
The
Ming Tombs are the burial sites of 13 emperors of Ming
Dynasty (1368-1644). ChangLing, the tomb of Emperor YongLe
is the biggest and the first built in this area. Most
of the unearthed relics are on display in the Hall of
Eminent Favour, which is the largest wooden architecture
in China. It has attracted millions of visitors from China
and abroad.

| Tian'anmen
Square, Temple of Heaven,
The
Forbidden City and The Summer Palace |
|
The
Temple of Heaven is the place where Ming and Qing emperors
came to pray for good harvests. The three-story round
building rises from a large square platform four meters
high fittingly standing in a ceremonial ground surrounded
by acres of ancient trees. The echo stones leading to
the temple, the echo wall that goes around it and the
stories associated with praying there to heaven, all add
some spice to the mystery of this place. UNESCO listed
it as one of the World Heritages in 1998.
Built
in the period 1406 to 1420, the Forbidden City boasts
over 9000 room units with a building space of 150,000
square meters. The huge complex of halls, towers and pavilions
with golden glazed tiles was the imperial court as well
as the palace of emperors and empresses of the Ming and
Qing dynasties. UNESCO listed it as one of the World Heritages
in 1987.
The
Summer Palace occupies an area of 290 hectares. The earth
dug out from Kunming Lake was used to create Longevity
Hill. Beside the rippling lake water and the magnificent
hill, terraces, towers, pavilions, temples, pagodas, long
corridor, marble boat, theater and many other structures,
all together make up this unusual place that once served
as a villa and garden for the royal family. UNESCO listed
it as one of the World Heritages in 1998.
